FAQ

What you want to know before the first appointment.

The questions we receive most frequently — answered openly.

What is Axomera therapy?

A bioelectric procedure developed in our practice (percutaneous bioelectric current stimulation). Via fine probes, a weak electric field is generated in the diseased tissue — in the range of the body's own fields. Axomera is patented in many respects and, to our knowledge, is the first to directly address the electrical control of inflammation and healing.

Does the treatment hurt?

Most patients find it very tolerable, similar to acupuncture. The probes are fine, and the currents are low and physiological.

What is the typical course of treatment?

Individual — an initial assessment of the response is usually possible after 2–3 sessions. We discuss this together and adjust the approach according to your progress.

How many treatments do I need?

As a rule, four to six sessions of about 30 minutes each, depending on the symptoms and the reaction to the treatment. For some indications, the number may be higher or lower.

What should I be aware of before and after treatment?

Avoid painkillers shortly before the session if possible, so that the area remains localisable. Please never adjust existing long-term medication on your own — discuss this with us in advance. Cortisone should be avoided before and after the treatment — please discuss details with the practice in advance.

Does Axomera promise a cure?

No. We formulate desired goals and treat where we see a sensible starting point. We cannot guarantee a specific result — clinical courses are individual.

How much does the treatment cost, and is it covered by health insurance?

Axomera therapy is a self-pay service (IGeL); we invoice privately according to the GOÄ. An overview of the costs can be found on the page Costs and reimbursement. Private health insurance and supplementary insurance often cover the therapy in full or in part, though we cannot guarantee this.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can contact us directly. Please bring any existing medical reports and imaging with you. If necessary, we will contact your physicians during or after the therapy

I live far away — how does it work?

Book your appointment online and upload your medical reports directly with the appointment request. A doctor will review them in advance and get in touch if there are any questions — this provides the basis for deciding whether the journey is worthwhile.

What do I need to bring to the first appointment?

Your existing reports, imaging (e.g. MRI/X-ray) and a list of your medications. The more precisely we know your history, the better.

Does the treatment have side effects?

Axomera is one of the very safe medical procedures. With many thousands of treatments, the therapy is well-tested and is considered to have few side effects and cause little pain. Temporarily, a slight feeling of warmth or brief skin redness may occur at the treatment site. We will discuss potential reactions with you medically before treatment.

Can I combine Axomera with other therapies?

Yes — with acupuncture, physiotherapy, manual therapy and physical therapy. Injections are possible, provided they do not involve cortisone. Except for simultaneous cortisone therapy, Axomera can be combined with many procedures. We will clarify this individually.
