axomera
Tension-type headache — diffuse, bilateral pressure, often starting from the neck up over the back of the head and forehead
Tension headache

Dull pressure that will not subside.

For frequent or chronic tension-type headache, as an Axomera therapy reference centre, we address the muscular and inflammatory component — with the aim of reducing pain and the need for medication.

Patients report

Voices from our practice.

Case 01 / 03
For over 30 years I suffered from tension-type headache almost daily and tried to take no tablets if possible. I received five to six Axomera treatments — after that I had no headaches for a year. When they noticeably returned, two further treatments helped. The last one was five years ago now.

Our standard

More than the next prescription.

Many of our patients come with the feeling that in every consultation they only get the next prescription — a new pack of painkillers, an additional prophylactic, a different active ingredient. The dull pressure in the head remains.

Up to a medication-overuse headache: at some point, it is the daily acute medication itself that maintains the pain. This is precisely the cycle we do not want to prolong.

Our standard is different: carefully going through your medical history, identifying potential pain triggers precisely, and checking whether Axomera is an option for you.

Clinical picture

Widespread — and often underestimated.

At 40–50 % of the population, tension-type headache is very widespread. Mild to moderate, gradually onsetting, dull-aching pain — described by many as a tight hat or steel band around the head.

01 · Characteristics

Dull-aching, bilateral.

Frequently begins in the neck and radiates bilaterally over the back of the head into the forehead. Mixed forms with migraine-like headache are possible.

02 · Course

Episodic vs. chronic.

Episodic form: individual episodes over one to two days. Chronic form: more than 15 days per month — or more than 180 days per year.

03 · Diagnostics

Clear classification instead of quick medication.

Diagnosis via medical history, physical examination and headache diary. Other illnesses are excluded first.

Tension-type headache — what is possible with medication

How Axomera acts

One level deeper: on the muscular and inflammatory component.

Axomera (percutaneous bioelectric current stimulation, PBCS) generates controlled static electric fields in the treatment area within the range of naturally occurring potentials — addressing the "electrical dimension" of inflammation and pain.

How inflammation and pain are connected →

For patients, the treatment feels similar to acupuncture — technically it is another: fine probes are placed on the diseased tissue and supplied with low, physiological currents controlled by microprocessor.

„
Inflammation has an electrical dimension. Axomera starts exactly there.

Where we make the difference

From an orthopaedic-pain medicine root — thought further with Axomera.

Standard · Guideline

Conventional therapy for classification.

Painkillers, antidepressants, muscle-relaxing techniques, relaxation procedures, moderate endurance sports and psychoeducation are part of established treatment.

Focus · Axomera

Fewer medications — goal is lasting freedom from symptoms.

For frequent or chronic tension-type headache, we treat the pain-relevant structures near the neck in a targeted manner — with the goal of, lowering pain and the need for medication — in favourable progressions up to longer-lasting freedom from symptoms.

We consciously formulate as a goal, not as a treatment promise. Therapy success depends on the individual case; we discuss this openly before treatment begins.
