axomera
Muscle fibre tear

First, locate precisely. Then, back to sport faster.

In the event of a muscle fibre tear or strain in the thigh or calf, we find the affected area with millimeter precision and use Axomera early — with the goal of supporting healing and shortening downtime.

Clinical picture

Acute injury — and risk of recurring tears.

Muscle fibre tears primarily affect the thighs (posterior muscle group, "hamstrings") and calves and result from impact trauma or overstretching; football, handball, basketball, ice hockey, tennis, and athletics are affected.

They manifest as sudden stabbing pain, swelling, and pain on movement — if loaded too soon, there is a risk of recurring tears.

Patients

What patients report.

Typical findings

From our patient consultations and the medical reports submitted.

  • Acute or slow-healing injury
  • Season or competition at risk, time pressure until "Return to Sport". Long periods of downtime.
  • Sudden stabbing pain, swelling, bruising
  • Weakness or tension during athletic exertion
  • Partly recurring fibre tears, reduced endurance capacity
Previous therapy

Almost always in this order.

  1. Immediate measures (RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) + painkillers
  2. Physiotherapy and progressive loading
  3. Injections into the muscle (Actovegin, Traumeel, PRP/ACP)
  4. Surgery (only for avulsion fractures, complete rupture, very large tears, or chronic cases)

Cortisone has not proven effective for muscle fibre tears.

Where we make the difference

The RICE scheme and physiotherapy provide the basic care, but do not state how stable the new tissue really is under re-loading.

Axomera for muscle and tendon injuries in sports.

After a muscle fibre tear or tendon injury, the first few days determine whether the incoming repair tissue scars over in a load-bearing way or whether the irritation becomes chronic. The injured area is located near the surface in the muscle and can be accurately located from the outside.

Axomera targets this injury region early: computer-controlled electrical signals in the dimension of cellular electrical fields are placed with millimeter precision on the injured muscle or tendon tissue. The goal is to support tissue remodeling in such a way that a more load-bearing structure is formed — coordinated with the gradual increase in loading. The procedure is non-medicinal and is not on the NADA/WADA doping list. This neurophysiological hypothesis is supported empirically by many patient progressions (real-world data), not by controlled studies; as with other indications, around 20–30% of those treated do not respond.

Athletes do not just want to be pain-free. They want to be able to load the joint again — that is what we measure ourselves by.

How Axomera therapy works →
Our approach

How we proceed with you.

Every therapy needs its own examination — for us, this includes the Axomera diagnostics and the Axomera therapy.

Axomera diagnostics
  1. Secure the diagnosis and check the influence of taken medication
  2. Millimeter-precise examination — locate the affected area in the muscle or tendon tissue
Axomera therapy
  1. 4–6 Axomera treatments, targeted at these points
  2. Goal: rapid pain reduction and accelerated regeneration.
  3. In favorable courses: shorter downtime and swift return to full load-bearing capacity.

Aims & course of treatment. We cannot guarantee a specific result — the progression is individual. Depending on the course of the condition, fewer or more treatments may be required.

Patients report

Individual cases.

During a game, sudden severe pain in the right thigh; the MRI showed an extensive injury with haemorrhage, three months of inability to participate in sports were certified. One day after the injury, Axomera therapy began with five treatments in ten days; the follow-up MRI after eleven days was significantly better, after three weeks I was back in the game.
MRI images of the right thigh: left initial scan with extensive muscle injury, haemorrhage, and oedema; right follow-up MRI after Axomera therapy with significant regression.
